Fun art weekend

Every year on President’s Day Weekend, we have the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and St. Stephen’s Art Show in our town. It’s 3-day weekend of art, music, fun and friends.

One of my favorite things on Sunday was Lime, the group from the 1980s, one of my favorites. I had forgotten about so many of their songs which defined my youth.

A few friends and I were standing near the park and all of a sudden, Lime starts performing, that’s the video above I ran right over. They sang all their hits, “Babe We’re Gonna Love Tonight,” “Guilty,” “Unexpected Lovers” and more. So great.

The Beaux Arts Festival

I went to Beaux Arts Festival of the Art on Saturday, the yearly show at the University of Miami, now in its 67th year. It’s the first arts festival of our festival season, coming up through the winter will be other yearly events.

We always see people from our town there – showing their art and strolling the festival and we eat everything in site from conch fritters to ice cream bars and everything in between.

I bought Silly Putty

51ZocRYWLSL._SX425_

I just bought Silly Putty. Remember this? Remember how it used to pick up newspaper comics? I wanted the original one, shown here, below. But I couldn’t find that. So I got this version, which supposedly is the real thing. I’ll let you know when I feel it and smell it, and try it on the comics.

Happy New Year!

I’m looking forward to 2018. I don’t know why, I just feel good about it. For one thing, the numbers add up to 11, which is very good and 18 is very good in Jewish/Hebrew. It’s “Chai,” which means “life.”

I feel and see good things coming for me, us and the country. I get premonitions and I feel strong about this.

I will finally get my new comic strip going and that’s probably the best thing for me right now. Stay tooned.

I love my new Superman bookend

superman

Is this the coolest thing? It’s my latest acquisition, made by a guy in Israel named Ovi Niv. You can get it here, it’s only $25. It was a gift actually. Love it.superman2superman3

I love this Cork Bow Tie, too.  You can get it here. It’s made of natural sustainable cork.

It’s quite thin made of sustainable material, the bark of the cork oak regenerates within 7-9 years after harvest, and the process extends the life of the trees to over 200 years. It’s hand-made in Portugal.bowtie

I love the smell of Crayola in the morning

Four totally surprising uses of crayons. Who knew?

But how do you wash the t-shirt?

Visiting cartoonist George Booth

I see New Yorker cartoonist George Booth is featured at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.  I saw this great feature on CBS Sunday Morning today about Mr. Booth, this is it above. I’ll be in NY next week, so I hope to stop by and enjoy his work.

Last time, actually, the only time I was at the Society of Illustrators, was this past July, that’s when I went to see the Spider-man art exhibit with my cousin Michael.

When I was in New York last month, my cousin Beth handed me a book she bought for me, it was “Going into Town” by cartoonist Roz Chast. She said, “I thought you might like this, I don’t know if you are familiar with Roz Chast’s work but it was about cartooning and New York, so I assumed you would like it.”

I was excited. I told her that I had found one of my new favorite museums that way, the Museum of the City of New York. In all these years, I had never been, but I saw that last July (2016) there was an exhibit of Roz Chast’s work who I was very familiar with, so I went up to see that. I now love that museum and that neighborhood, so every time I’m in New York, I check it out.

My new t-shirt shop

comics-shirt

I started a little t-shirt shop to help me raise some money to support this blog. I hope you’ll check it out. There are a few other items like mugs, too.

So far, I have three sections: ComicsTV/MovesPets – Pot Pourri.

Thanks!

My Stories on Instagram

instagram-tomversationI told you about  VideoCam, my favorite new app. That still is my favorite, but I’ve also been playing around with Facebook live and doing live videos and now I’ve gotten into the Story thingie on Instagram. It’s supposed to be like Snapchat, but I could never get into Snapchat, but I’m really enjoying Instagram’s Story feature where you add short videos which disappear in 24 hours.

I’ve been showing some of my upcoming comics and the work I’ve been doing getting my Tomversation comic ready for publication. You can join me at Instagram.com/Tomversation and if you follow me, you’ll get to see the Story videos when I post them. You have to follow on a cell phone, it doesn’t work on a computer or ipad, that’s the nature of Instagram.

The Silver Surfer

Love this. Check it out. Reminds me of the guy on the snow boarder during the blizzard.
